Petra Haden- Theme from Superman

We’re absolutely loving the new album Petra Goes to the Movies from celebrated vocalist/musician Petra Haden, it’s one crazy and inspired collection of movie themes performed acappella, as well as a few straight up covers of movie songs. When it comes to “cover albums” we judge first and foremost on the selections and this new album wins in that respect on all accounts. The highlights include, Bernard Hermann’s Taxi Driver and Psycho, Trent Reznor’s Oscar winning The Social Network and Ennio Moriccone’s sweet and beautiful Cinema Paradiso. Haden’s song selection is equally as eclectic and features “It Might Be You” from Tootsie, “Calling You” from the indie classic Baghdad Cafe and David Bowie’s haunting “This is Not America” from The Falcon and The Snowman. It’s a collection only a true movie fan could love and that’s exactly why we do!

When you’re an indie artist working on an ultra thin budget ya gotta do what ya gotta do and this video is a perfect example of what we call “no budget promotion”. Admittedly there isn’t a whole lot going on in this video, which begs the question; “Why did we choose this as our V.O.W?” The answer is easy, it’s nihilistically hilarious and we really needed a good laugh after last weekend’s hideous “Red Wedding Reception”. Get it? Got it? Good.

(Seriously, stay with this, it’s very funny, we promise!)
